Arts boards, did you know that you don’t need a Chairperson? And that you don’t need a Treasurer either?
My latest ‘and another thing’ vlog is about how most arts, cultural and non-profit board office-holders are a choice, not a compliance requirement (which means we can tailor them to what our organisations really need).
And don’t panic, I’m not saying you can’t or shouldn’t choose to have a Chairperson or Treasurer. Or that they might not currently be required by your governing Rules or Constitution (which can be changed).
But whether you have or what you call your Chair or President or Deputy or Co-Chair or Grand High Poobah of Making Sure Everyone is Okay is completely up to you. And your organisation already has the flexibility to tailor your roles and office holders to your specific needs. As long as you’re clear about who is doing the few legally-required roles your organisations are technically not allowed to operate without.
